The new control tower at the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima is 50% complete.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe Until the last week of June, the construction of the new control tower of the Jorge Chávez International Airport (AIJCh) accumulated an advance of almost 50% in physical works, according to the Vice Minister of Transport, Paul Caiguaray, who carried out an inspection of the works carried out as part of the expansion project.

“The infrastructure of the New Control Tower has made significant progress and the metallic structure is already ready. The tower has a height of 65.39 meters. At the bottom, the Lima Airport Partners (LAP) concessionaire is building what will be the administrative offices for the Corpac servers, the fire department security building, the light control and the electrical substation ”, he said.

He stressed that this will be the first tower in our country that will operate two runways simultaneously, which means a fundamental advance for the air sector in our country. “With the existing runway, more or less 35 flights are operated per hour. With this new tower, and having two simultaneous runways, we can reach a capacity of 80 flights per hour ”, he assured.

In addition to the new control tower, the deputy minister supervised the works that are being carried out within the package of works that make up the second runway, the 10 kilometers of taxiways, and beacon systems, among other points.

“The advances are significant. On this runway they are at 22% and LAP will start with the asphalt works already in the first days of July ”, he said.

He considered that this fundamental project for the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) will reach an important level of progress until July. Thus, the second runway and the new control tower will come into operation in the first quarter of 2023, after the equipment of the new control tower by Corpac.

For the third quarter of the year, Lima Airport Partners plans to award the Land Side works, which include the new passenger terminal and complementary infrastructure.
