En compañía del ministro de Transportes y Comunicaciones, Eduardo González, el mandatario constató los avances de este proyecto, que viene siendo ejecutado por el concesionario Lima Airport Partners (LAP), cuya inversión global será de US$ 1200 millones.
Con el inicio de los trabajos de asfalto, la construcción de la segunda pista de aterrizaje de 3480 metros de longitud continúa en marcha. Se espera que entre en operación en el primer trimestre de 2023, junto a la nueva torre de control, que tiene casi el 50% de avance físico en infraestructura.
“En medio de la crisis sanitaria seguimos avanzando en la ampliación del aeropuerto. A fines del próximo año debemos tener esta segunda pista totalmente concluida”, manifestó el ministro González.
El proyecto de ampliación contempla obras del Lado Aire, como la segunda pista de aterrizaje y la nueva torre de control; y las obras del Lado Tierra, que comprende la nueva terminal de pasajeros. En conjunto, se registra un avance global de 22.9% al cierre del mes de junio.
Para el tercer trimestre del año, el concesionario prevé adjudicar las obras del nuevo terminal de pasajeros y la infraestructura complementaria. Una vez hecha la adjudicación, los primeros trabajos de movimiento de tierras se esperan concretar hacia finales de 2021.
Las obras que se encuentran en ejecución han generado nuevos puestos de trabajo. Actualmente se emplean alrededor de 2500 trabajadores en campo (entre personal contratista y de LAP), adicionalmente a los profesionales y consultores dedicados al proyecto, nacionales y extranjeros.
Cuando las dos pistas de aterrizaje se encuentren en funcionamiento, se podrán operar 80 vuelos por hora, lo que significa que se duplicará la capacidad de operación actual del Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez.
Además, el proyecto impulsará la construcción de una ciudad aeropuerto, con nuevos hoteles, oficinas, almacenes, áreas de carga y un nuevo parque logístico, que convertirá al Callao en un eje aeroportuario de gran flujo comercial, en beneficio de todo el país.

For the third quarter of the year, the concessionaire plans to award the works of the new passenger terminal and the complementary infrastructure. Once the award has been made, the first earthmoving works are expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
The works that are in progress have created new jobs. Currently, around 2,500 workers are employed in the field (between contractor and LAP personnel), in addition to professionals and consultants dedicated to the project, nationals and foreigners.
When the two runways are in operation, 80 flights per hour can be operated, which means that the current operating capacity of the Jorge Chávez International Airport will be doubled.
In addition, the project will promote the construction of an airport city, with new hotels, offices, warehouses, cargo areas and a new logistics park, which will turn Callao into an airport hub with a large commercial flow, for the benefit of the entire country.
