In the commemoration of the 200 years since the signing of the Act of Independence of Peru, the challenge is to forge a new Peru.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe The challenge presented by the Bicentennial of independence is that, together, we can forge a new Peru from the convergence of different points of view , experiences and ways of thinking, said today the President of the Republic, Francisco Sagasti.

It was by heading, together with the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz; the commemoration ceremony of the 200 years of the signing of the Act of Independence of Peru by the Cabildo Abierto de Lima, in the Municipal Theater of the capital city.

“The signing of the Act of Independence, held on July 15, 1821 and its subsequent proclamation, showed, from the beginning of the Republic, from the birth of our independent life, that Lima was a place of convergence,” he noted.

He pointed out that, during these 200 years of independent life, Lima has been a place where migrants from different parts of the country have intersected, which have allowed it to be a reflection of all of Peru and, at the same time, for many other cities to acquire something of that stately tone that characterizes the capital.

But Lima, during all this time, has reinvented itself, it has been changing, it is at the same time modern and stately, a city in which all of Peru is reflected and which, at the same time, radiates towards the entire country, he stressed.

PLACES OF REFLECTION
The president said that now we need all the cities of Peru to become places of reflection on what our country should be.

In that sense, he said that this morning he spoke with members of the Tinkuy Parliament, which brings together boys, girls, adolescents from all over the country, about the future of Peru and said that “I have asked them for something in particular, that when thinking about and from your region, do not do it only in your region, think from there in all of Peru ”.

“What our country needs now is the convergence of different points of view, of different experiences, of different ways of thinking, united, in such a way that we can forge a new Peru. This is the challenge that 200 years of independent life presents us, ”he stated and pointed out that all cities and all Peruvians have the right, but also the duty, to think, project and work together for the country.

“The enormous debt that we have had for a long time, in which the exclusion of different ethnic groups and women, as has been recalled, is over. It is over and in these two hundred years we can say, truly, decisively and looking to the future, that Peru is a country of equal citizens, in which each and every one of us, wherever we are, will be able to imagine , design, decide and freely build our future, “he said.

“That is the debt that we have to pay after 200 years of republican life,” he pointed out and said that, remembering the signing of the Peruvian Independence Act 200 years later, it is time for all Peruvians to commit ourselves, Without any distinction, “to forge the country that many people have dreamed of, beginning with the precursors of independence and the intellectuals who, at the end of the 18th century, began to think about the possibility of having a new Peru.

“Those dreams also had by those who rebelled in the interior of the country, such as Túpac Amaru and Micaela Bastidas, in such a way that all united, no matter where we come from, wherever we are, we can build the Peru that we all want and can, in one once and for all, to realize the dream of a republican life ”, he pointed out.

At the ceremony, the Minister of Culture, Alejandro Neyra, read the vice-ministerial resolution of his sector by which the Act of the independence of Peru is declared as Cultural Heritage of the Nation, a document that he delivered to the mayor of Lima.

Likewise, President Sagasti and Mayor Muñoz signed the Commemorative Book of the Bicentennial of Independence “Let us reaffirm our citizenship.”

In the same way, the capital mayor gave the head of the State the Commemorative Coin of the Municipality of Lima for the 200 years of the independence of Peru.

Also present at the ceremony were the Interior Ministers, José Elice; and from Transport and Communications, Eduardo González; the general commander of the National Police, General PNP Cesar Cervantes, and councilors of the Municipality of Lima.
