La actividad se realizó en el Cuartel General del Ejército, ubicado en el distrito de San Borja, y contó con la presencia de la embajadora de los Estados Unidos en el Perú, Lisa Kenna; del viceministro de Políticas para la Defensa, Manuel Mesones; del comandante general del Ejército, general de División José Vizcarra Álvarez; y del jefe del Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (Indeci), Alfredo Murgueytio; entre otras autoridades.

El jefe del Estado expresó su agradecimiento al Gobierno de los Estados Unidos por la donación de los cuatro hospitales móviles, que permitirán fortalecer la capacidad de respuesta del Estado ante la emergencia sanitaria por la COVID-19 y otras situaciones de emergencia causadas por fenómenos naturales. Dos de ellos están destinados a la Marina de Guerra, uno al Ejército y otro al Ministerio de Salud.

Al ratificar el compromiso de su gestión por mejorar la salud y las condiciones de vida de la población, el presidente Castillo sostuvo que el apoyo que proviene de cualquier país, más aún de los Estados Unidos, que tiene lazos históricos con el Perú en los campos de la salud, la educación, la agricultura, entre otros, tiene que llegar a todos los rincones del país.

“Esta ayuda de los países amigos, como los Estados Unidos y como muchos otros que se han solidarizado con las necesidades de la población más vulnerable del Perú, adquiere especial relevancia ante la eventualidad de una tercera ola, así como la constante probabilidad de que ocurran fenómenos naturales”, anotó.

“En estos espacios bilaterales con Estados Unidos, que es un socio histórico, esperamos que, saliendo de la pandemia, nos sentemos a conversar para tratar temas urgentes como el de la educación y de la salud. Para nosotros el problema de la pandemia no es simplemente sanitario, es un problema histórico que trae pobreza, desigualdad, abandono, orfandad y eso tenemos que atacarlo categóricamente”, remarcó el mandatario.

“Hago un llamado a estrechar el diálogo con los países amigos que, como los Estados Unidos, tienen la capacidad tecnológica, los recursos económicos y, sobre todo, la voluntad de cooperar con el Perú, en estos momentos en que hay grandes necesidades”, expresó.

Al destacar que el Perú y los Estados Unidos tienen una amplia tradición de cooperación, el presidente Castillo dijo que espera que esta se incremente en los ámbitos de la ciencia y la tecnología, así como en el comercio, la educación, el deporte, la cultura, las inversiones y en otros ámbitos.
