Exports total US $ 55 billion this 2021, as indicated by ADEX on the Exporter’s Day.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe Peruvian exports would amount to US $ 55 billion this year, estimated the president of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Erik Fischer, during the forum ‘Opportunities for international business’, organized by the union on the occasion of Exporter’s Day which is commemorated today, Tuesday, November 9.

The spokesperson highlighted the work of exporters and in particular entrepreneurs to bring the best of the Peruvian offer to different markets in the world, taking advantage of the network of trade agreements signed, thanks to which 40% of consumers have access of the planet.

“With a lot of effort (exporting companies) develop social, inclusive and decentralized initiatives in this difficult situation due to Covid-19. Despite this, the sector was very resilient in the generation of jobs and several activities achieved moderate growth ”, he said.

This year, on the contrary, we will celebrate a successful year with a historical record exceeding US $ 55 billion – he continued -, when things improve a little, the strength of the exporters makes Peru an important supplier not only of minerals, but of foods that are recognized in the world for their quality.

“In the last 20 years a very important component has been launched: the development of a public-private agenda, very close to the Government. This institution (public-private alliance) cannot be weakened, on the contrary, it must be strengthened. A good level of governance must be maintained, ”he said.

The union leader expressed the concern of the exporters about the political situation and in that sense urged the commitment of all, in order to achieve stability and that Peru is channeled on the norms of respect for the Constitution, due process and democracy, which constitute the only way to overcome poverty, malnutrition and eradicate corruption that attacks in a structured way.

Finally, he welcomed the work of the export force, made up mainly of small companies, whose evolution in a reasonable time is necessary for them to contribute more to the country’s growth.

MINCETUR
In his lecture ‘2022: perspectives and challenges for international business in Peru’, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Roberto Sánchez, highlighted the role of exporters and the evolution of the sector, which grew by nearly 50% as of August, while the Latin American average was 30% and the world (28.5%).

He said that foreign trade is supported by public policies, embodied in the National Export Strategic Plan (PENX) to 2025 that seeks to contribute to the continuous improvement and competitiveness of this activity and rests on four pillars with their respective programs and activities.

He highlighted the integration process in which Peru is immersed and the network of current trade agreements. “We seek to optimize the agreement with China, modernize some chapters and include new and emerging ones. Four rounds of negotiation have already been carried out,” he explained.

Regarding the agreement with India, he said that five rounds were carried out and a sixth is expected early next year. Regarding the Peru-Nicaragua FTA, whose negotiations began in 2021 –he continued–, two rounds were held. In the Pacific Alliance the subscription with Singapore is expected in December, among others.

PROBLEMS IN THE VALUE CHAINS
Congressman Carlos Anderson, in his lecture ‘World Economic Outlook: Progress and Challenge’, pointed out that the international scene is characterized by problems in value chains, the confrontation between the US and China – which is not over yet and worries around the world–, high inflation in some countries such as Argentina or Brazil, and currency devaluation.

“Despite this, this year the economies have recovered, but it is not known if that growth will continue in 2022, a year in which significant risks could be experienced. At the local level, it is not known whether the rebound effect will continue, we would have to wait for the BCR’s projections on how our economy would close, however, the authorities, especially the economic ones, need to restore confidence, “he said.

The vice-dean of the International Business degree at the Universidad del Pacífico, Oscar Malca, in his presentation “Challenges of exporting MSMEs”, spoke about instability in companies. “They export and then they stop doing it,” he said.

The variables to achieve continuity are linked to language, cultural difference, international competition, risks in the variation of the exchange rate and appreciation of the Peruvian currency, others are the lack of information on potential and opportunities. “As a member of the Pacific Alliance, Peru has a small intraregional trade and that unleashes 2 hypotheses: either there are no opportunities or we do not know how to manage them,” he explained.

Finally, the management associate of the International Trade Center (ITC) program, Sandra Leicht-Cabrera, in her address “The current situation and prospects for global trade,” stated that it is important to work in favor of greater regional integration.

“It is a market made up of 650 million inhabitants, together as a region we can promote shared production and research networks among the different countries, which would reduce regional vulnerability to supply interruptions such as those that occurred during the pandemic,” he concluded.
