“Hoy tenemos en nuestras manos la responsabilidad de formular políticas reales, concretas y de efecto inmediato, que atiendan y mitiguen las vulnerabilidades causadas por la pandemia y la inestabilidad económica, medidas que a su vez ayuden a reducir la desigualdad y mejorar nuestra preparación ante crisis futuras”, señaló.

Durante su participación en la reunión del Consejo de Ministros de la Alianza del Pacífico, el canciller Maúrtua, sostuvo que el bloque regional necesita mantener su relevancia y velocidad, materializando en acciones concretas los mandatos presidenciales que se vienen adoptando cada año.

Agregó que, entre las tareas pendientes que requieren atención inmediata, están el incremento del comercio intrarregional, y la culminación de los procesos de negociación de los actuales candidatos a Estado Asociado.

“Considero que este mecanismo de integración regional mantiene la capacidad de potenciar nuestra proyección geoestratégica al Asia-Pacífico. Debemos trabajar en una estrategia de vinculación política y comercial con los futuros Estados Asociados, siendo el primero Singapur”, indicó.

El titular de Torre Tagle hizo un llamado a redoblar esfuerzos para fortalecer nuestras pequeñas y medianas empresas; el cierre de las brechas de género; el desarrollo de una verdadera integración digital; y una apuesta conjunta por la educación, la ciencia, la tecnología y la innovación.

“Son tareas que no pueden ser circunstanciales frente a la actual crisis (de la COVID-19), sino políticas a largo plazo sobre la base de un compromiso real y efectivo con todos los actores sociales y económicos”, manifestó.

En definitiva –señaló- el éxito de la Alianza de Pacífico depende de la disposición de nuestros gobiernos para ajustar y modificar estrategias de respuesta rápida y real de acuerdo con los cambios y circunstancias; y a la capacidad para mantener la confianza social a través de decisiones que atiendan las necesidades de nuestros ciudadanos.

En otro momento, el canciller Maúrtua consideró que el traspaso de la Presidencia Pro Témpore de Colombia a México representa una oportunidad para impulsar iniciativas que complementen los esfuerzos nacionales que buscan una recuperación económica y social inclusiva y sostenible.

“Estoy seguro que el prestigio político y diplomático que le antecede a México nos brindará el aliento que necesitamos para reimpulsar a la Alianza del Pacífico”, apuntó al concluir su exposición.

The head of Torre Tagle made a call to redouble efforts to strengthen our small and medium-sized companies; closing gender gaps; the development of true digital integration; and a joint commitment to education, science, technology and innovation.

“These are tasks that cannot be circumstantial in the face of the current crisis (of COVID-19), but long-term policies based on a real and effective commitment with all social and economic actors,” he said.

Ultimately, he pointed out, the success of the Pacific Alliance depends on the willingness of our governments to adjust and modify rapid and real response strategies in accordance with changes and circumstances; and the ability to maintain social trust through decisions that meet the needs of our citizens.

At another time, Foreign Minister Maúrtua considered that the transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency from Colombia to Mexico represents an opportunity to promote initiatives that complement national efforts that seek an inclusive and sustainable economic and social recovery.

“I am sure that the political and diplomatic prestige that precedes Mexico will give us the encouragement we need to re-launch the Pacific Alliance,” he said at the end of his presentation.
