El acto de instalación fue presidido por la titular del Poder Legislativo, Maricarmen Alva Prieto, y tuvo lugar en el Hemiciclo del Congreso de la República.

De acuerdo a lo dispuesto en el artículo 49 del Reglamento del Congreso, el periodo anual de sesiones tiene dos periodos ordinarios de sesiones o legislaturas. La primera legislatura se inicia el 27 de julio y termina el 15 de diciembre. La segunda legislatura se inicia el 01 de marzo y termina el 15 de junio.

La primera legislatura del periodo anual 2021-2022 fue ampliada hasta el lunes 28 de febrero.
