La decisión parlamentaria se consolidó luego de una ronda de intervenciones de los legisladores de todas las bancadas parlamentarias y tras la sustentación de la moción a cargo del legislador Jorge Montoya (RP)

Previamente, se votó la propuesta del congresista Jorge Montoya Manrique (RP) para que esa sesión plenaria se realice el viernes 18 a las 10:00 horas, esta iniciativa como todas las que propone este parlamentario tuvo un pobre respaldo con 19 votos a favor y 97 votos en contra.

En consecuencia el Pleno del Congreso de la República acordó que el debate y votación del pedido de vacancia de la Presidencia de la República se realizará el lunes 28 de marzo a las 15.00 horas.

Por lo tanto en de acuerdo a lo establecido en el artículo 89-A del Reglamento del Congreso, esta decisión fue de inmediato comunicado al presidente de la República para que ejerza personalmente su derecho de defensa o pueda ser asistido por un letrado de su elección, según la norma, por el tiempo de una hora, en el día, hora y lugar indicado.

Finalmente en el día los diversos portavoces de las bancadas políticas en el seno parlamentario aceptaron el pedido del jefe de Estado peruano para acudir este martes 15 de marzo a las 17:00 horas al Congreso y se dirija en un mensaje ante la representación nacional.
