Las intervenciones quirúrgicas se realizaron al amparo de un nuevo convenio de cooperación interinstitucional que Pensión 65 y el INO suscribieron el 18 de enero último y que tiene vigencia de dos años, con lo cual reactivaron su trabajo coordinado, interrumpido por la pandemia de la COVID-19 en marzo del 2020.

“Ahora podré leer mi periódico nuevamente. Me gusta estar bien informado. Pero, sobre todo, podré ver a la selección peruana de fútbol en el partido de repechaje para el Mundial”, dijo Marcos Herminio León Matías, de 78 años, uno de los usuarios operados de catarata.

Los casos que requirieron cirugía fueron definidos tras dos jornadas de diagnóstico y tamizaje a cargo de profesionales del INO, cumplidas en marzo y en las que participó un centenar de personas usuarias de Pensión 65 vecinas de Carabayllo. Un día antes de las operaciones, los adultos mayores fueron sometidos al descarte de coronavirus por personal de la Dirección de Redes Integradas de Salud (Diris) Lima Norte, del Ministerio de Salud (Minsa).

Todos los gastos generados en las jornadas de diagnóstico, tamizaje, riesgo quirúrgico y operaciones, que incluyen medicinas, material médico y otros costos, es asumido por el Seguro Integral de Salud (SIS). La Municipalidad Distrital de Carabayllo trasladó, ida y vuelta, a los pacientes y a sus familiares en la segunda jornada de tamizaje y en el día de las operaciones.

“Pensión 65 siempre va más allá de la entrega de la subvención monetaria. En ese marco, la gestión con el INO para la realización de las operaciones de catarata es una acción más del programa en procura de mejorar la calidad de vida de sus usuarias y usuarios, que son personas adultas mayores en situación de pobreza extrema”, sostuvo la directora ejecutiva del programa, Mabel Gálvez Gálvez.

Gracias a convenios previos entre Pensión 65 y el INO, el Instituto Regional de Oftalmología, de Gobierno Regional de La Libertad, y Direcciones Regionales de Salud, entre el 2018 y marzo del 2020 se realizaron 1139 cirugías de catarata a personas usuarias del programa en las regiones de Tumbes, Loreto, La Libertad, Lima, Pasco, Junín, Cusco, Madre de Dios, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Arequipa y Tacna.
