Entre los objetivos del Gobierno peruano destacan: la plena implementación de los acuerdos de paz de 1998, además que Ecuador cumpla con sus obligaciones en materia de Gestión Integrada de Recursos Hídricos y cese de la contaminación de las cuencas compartidas.

Del mismo modo, establecer cursos de acción para atender las necesidades de acceso de servicios de agua, saneamiento, salud y educación de las poblaciones de frontera.

Según la agenda, el jefe de Estado, llega al aeropuerto de Catamayo junto a su delegación aproximadamente a las 8:00 horas. Previo a la instalación del encuentro bilateral recorrerá el Centro Integral de Gestión de Residuos Sólidos en Loja.

Al promediar las 10:45 horas se desarrollará la sesión plenaria del encuentro y del XIV Gabinete Binacional Ecuador- Perú en el Centro Cultural Bernardo Valdivieso.

Durante el evento se abordarán cinco ejes temáticos entre ellos: asuntos sociales y culturales (ministro de salud, Jorge Antonio López), asuntos ambientales, energéticos y mineros (ministro del Ambiente), económicos y comerciales, de inversión (ministro de Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Roberto Sánchez), así como infraestructura, conectividad (ministro de Transportes y Comunicaciones, Nicolás Bustamante) y seguridad y defensa (ministro de Defensa, José Gavidia).

Finalmente, a las 12:00 horas se suscribirá la Declaración Conjunta entre ambas naciones.
