Fue durante el evento denominado “Día Mundial de la Libertad de Prensa”, que se conmemora en la fecha, y que fue organizado por el despacho del legislador Miguel Ángel Ciccia Vásquez (RP).

“Desde la Presidencia del Congreso hemos iniciado el acondicionamiento de la Sala de Cronistas Parlamentarios la cual ha estado cerrada por más de dos años y requiere de algunas mejoras”, dijo Alva Prieto, al tiempo de precisar que el acceso de los periodistas será cumpliendo las medidas sanitarias porque la pandemia de la COVID-19 no ha terminado aún.

Antes de este anuncio importante, la presidenta del Congreso ratificó el compromiso de ese poder del Estado para la defensa de la democracia y la libertad de prensa. Señaló que esta fecha es una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre la necesidad de preservar esta condición trascendental para el afianzamiento de la democracia en todo el mundo.

Agregó que este acto tiene una importancia especial para ella porque es hija de un hombre de prensa, Miguel Alva Orlandini, con quien aprendió que no hay democracia sin libertades y que siempre se debe defender la libertad de prensa y la libertad de expresión.

“(…) Defender la libertad es defender al pueblo y por eso es que la noble labor de los periodistas y de la prensa independiente, tiene que ser valorada porque sólo con su contribución podremos lograr una sociedad más justa y más libre”, opinó.

En tanto, el legislador Miguel Ángel Ciccia Vásquez (RP) dijo que el 3 de mayo es una fecha propicia para reflexionar sobre el papel que desempeñan los medios de comunicación en los sistemas democráticos, además de evaluar la situación de la libertad de prensa en el Perú.

Seguidamente, rindió homenaje a los periodistas que perdieron la vida en el cumplimiento del deber como lo fueron los mártires de Uchuraccay. También lamentó que en el 2021, fueron asesinados 47 periodistas en el mundo solo por informar con objetividad.

Agregó que tiene la seguridad de que el Parlamento no desmayará en la búsqueda de una libertad de prensa que sirva de ejemplo a las nuevas generaciones.

También participaron el congresista Jorge Montoya (RP); Ricardo Burgos, decano nacional del Colegio de Periodistas del Perú, y Luis Tipacti Melgarejo, decano del Colegio de Periodistas de Lima, entre otros expositores.
