We propose a credit mechanism to subsidy fertilizers and food, said President Castillo at the IX Summit of the Americas.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo Terrones, proposed today to establish a regional credit program through the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which subsidize fertilizers such as urea and other phosphates, in addition to foods whose consumption is essential for the population, he stated during his speech at the plenary session of leaders in the framework of the IX Summit of the Americas.

“We must face in a coordinated manner the current difficulties of agricultural production due to the shortage of fertilizers and access to food for the population, which hits the most vulnerable households much more severely,” he told the heads of state and Government.

He stressed that Peru has brought its serious concern about the shortage of fertilizers to the Organization of American States (OAS), which led to the approval by consensus of a resolution of the Permanent Council to monitor the situation.

DECLARATION ON MIGRATION AND CORRUPTION
At another time, the head of state said that Peru will sign the Los Angeles declaration on migration and corruption.

He assured that migrations represent one of the greatest challenges in the American region, in the face of which Peru insists on the need to implement a human rights approach and a comprehensive cooperation scheme on migration matters in an integral manner.

“This will allow the promotion of safe, orderly and regular migration, for the benefit of those who have decided to migrate, as well as the societies and countries that generously welcome them,” he stressed.

DEMOCRATIC AND RESPECTFUL GOVERNMENT OF FREEDOMS
On the other hand, President Castillo ratified before the summit that he presides over a democratic government, absolutely respectful of citizen freedoms and of the institutions of the Rule of Law, a situation that has been fully demonstrated in the months of government administration.

“I allow myself to draw attention to the urgency of preserving democracy in the face of the threats posed by authoritarian impulses, institutionalized corruption and other anti-democratic groups, as well as the impact of organized crime in the Hemisphere,” he said.

He mentioned that he is a rural school teacher to whom the Peruvian people have given the honorable task of leading the country and that he assumes this commitment as a citizen on behalf of teachers and workers.

“As established in the Inter-American Democratic Charter, the peoples of the Americas have the right to democracy and their governments have the obligation to promote and defend it. In Peru 20 years ago we recovered democracy and we are determined to continue working to consolidate it and generate greater well-being for the people,” he said.

Finally, he pointed out that these and other concerns will also be the subject of debate at the next General Assembly of the Organization of American States to be held in Peru in October of this year.
