Así lo manifestó durante su participación en la mesa redonda “Gobernabilidad democrática frente a la corrupción”, en el marco de su participación en la IX Cumbre de las Américas donde precisó que los gobiernos no solo deben ser democráticos, sino también transparentes.
Indicó que, si bien hay acuerdos asumidos a nivel regional de lucha contra la corrupción, se “requiere hacer mayores esfuerzos para financiar y sostener este trabajo”.
El mandatario aseveró que tanto el funcionario corrupto y el corruptor deben ser sancionados con el mismo rigor ante la justicia.
Dijo que lamentablemente el Perú, no ha sido ajeno a ver cómo los recursos públicos destinados a la ejecución de obras, han desaparecido en actos de corrupción. “Por eso hay expresidentes, ministros, gobernadores regionales y alcaldes privados de su libertad”, recordó.
“La corrupción en el Perú se ha venido llevando en estos últimos tiempos 22,000 millones de soles al año, no podemos permitir que eso continúe, esos recursos le corresponden al país, a la sociedad. Es un reto para la juventud, que tiene a la mano la tecnología, ayudarnos a identificar estos hechos y sancionarlos”, manifestó.
Comentó además que, debido a la corrupción, el país tiene cerca de 1,700 obras abandonadas y en proceso de arbitraje, lo que afecta al Estado y a la población.
