La huancaína Gabriela Kimberly García León ​ es una atleta de la nación Inca que se desempeña desde que era una niña en pruebas atléticas. En diciembre del 2017, esta destacada atleta del país fue reconocida y premiada por la Federación de Atletismo, como mejor atleta del 2017 debido a los logros obtenidos durante ese año. BIOGRAFIA
Gabriela Kimberly García León, apodada “Kimy” por sus amigos y familiares, nace en la incontratable ciudad de Huancayo el 19 de octubre de 1993, es hija de José Antonio García y Gabriela León. La familia de Kimberly ha estado ligada a la marcha atlética desde siempre, es así que un día su padre le dijo que acompañara a su prima a una competencia cuando tenía 5 años y desde ese momento no se ha podido alejar de la Marcha atlética.​

Quienes la conocen desde siempre señalan que la atleta peruana, Gabriela Kimberly García León, a pesar de su corta edad tomó la decisión de practicar la marcha atlética y poco a poco entrenar a un nivel competitivo. Algunos de sus familiares y amigos, que practicaban el deporte, lo fueron dejando conforme pasaba el tiempo debido a las constantes críticas y falta de apoyo. Gabriela Kimberly García León, estudia administración en la Universidad Continental, balanceando su vida académica con la deportiva, logrando obtener excelentes resultados en ambos ámbitos; en múltiples ocasiones Kimberly ha indicado que considera importante obtener un título académico profesional y de la misma forma cree que a través del deporte puede convertirse en un ejemplo para las futuras generaciones; es así como “Kimy” fue aumentando su nivel competitivo trazando nuevos objetivos como participar de los Juegos Olímpicos y representar a Perú en la mayor cantidad de campeonatos posibles.

LOGROS DEPORTIVOS ALCANZADOS
En el 2013, ocupó el 32° lugar en el campeonato mundial de atletismo en Moscú en donde participó en los 20 km en marcha atlética. Posteriormente, en el 2014 logró quedarse con el primer puesto en el Sudamericano. Asimismo, ese mismo año participó del Grand Prix Internacional de Barranco en 10000 metros pista, en el cual consiguió una marca de 45.19.80, la cual le permitió establecer un nuevo récord sudamericano.

En el 2015 participó en La Copa Panamericana de Arica 2015, competencia en la que obtuvo la medalla de plata y en la que consiguió un tiempo de 1.29.44, con el que logró clasificar al mundial de China en Beijing 2015, a los Juegos Panamericanos Toronto 2015, llegando 5° y sufriendo un desmayo al cruzar la meta y también a los Juegos Olímpicos Río 2016, en el que se ubicó en el puesto 14.

Luego de los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016, consideró retirarse del atletismo profesional debido a la falta de apoyo de las empresas privadas, lo que generaba que ella tenga que incurrir en la totalidad de los gastos correspondientes a las competencias, entrenamientos, indumentaria deportiva, etc. Sin embargo, permaneció insistiendo en la búsqueda de auspiciadores consiguiendo el apoyo de algunos de ellos.

Finalmente, en abril de 2019, Kimberly logró clasificar a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020, luego de hacer la marca requerida en la Copa Panamericana de Marcha Atlética en México. Asimismo, en agosto consiguió colgarse la medalla de plata en los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima 2019.

Luego en el 2021, Kimberly compitió en los Juegos Olímpicos Tokio 2020, donde lamentablemente no logró acabar la carrera. Ese mismo año Kimberly compitió en el gran Prix sudamericano realizado en Lima, donde impuso la tercera mejor marca a nivel mundial en los 10000m de todo el año. Luego, en diciembre del 2021, logró la medalla de oro en el campeonato Nacional de Marcha Atlética.

En el 2022 arrancó las competencias con el campeonato sudamericano de Marcha Atlética, donde logró la medalla de plata en 20 km individual y luego la medalla de oro en 20 km por equipos.

Y ahora en este julio de 2022, se corona como el número uno en el Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo 2022 obteniendo meritoriamente la “Medalla de Oro” para el Perú, en Oregón EE.UU., “Kimy” rompió el récord nacional de 1:28:38 que estableció a principios de este año cuando terminó en 1:26:58.
