Ambos postulantes obtuvieron 52 y 21 votos respectivamente, por lo que, en cumplimiento a lo que señala el artículo 12 del Reglamento del Parlamento, habrá una segunda elección para definir al ganador.
El recuento de las 124 cédulas (igual número de congresistas que participaron) fue el siguiente:
-Candidato número 1: congresista José Luis Elías Ávalos (Podemos Perú/Somos Perú): 9 votos
-Candidato número 2: parlamentario Guido Bellido Ugarte (Perú Libre): 16 votos
-Candidato número 3: congresista Luis Aragón Carreño (AP/ Bloque Magisterial de Concertación Nacional): 21
-Candidato número 4: legislador José María Balcázar Zelada (Perú Bicentenario): 15
-Candidato número 5: congresista José Williams Zapata (Avanza País): 52
-Candidato número 6: legislador Carlos Javier Zeballos Madariaga (Integridad y Desarrollo): 10 votos
-En blanco: 1 voto
“En consecuencia ningún candidato ha alcanzado la mayoría de votos que establece el Reglamento del Congreso”, dijo Martha Moyano Delgado, primera vicepresidenta encargada de la Presidencia del Congreso, quien conduce la sesión.
Cabe indicar que el artículo 12 del Reglamento del Parlamento señala que “si ninguna lista obtiene la mayoría simple se efectuará, con el mismo procedimiento, una segunda votación entre las dos listas con mayor número de votos, proclamándose a los candidatos de la lista que obtenga mayor votación”.
