“Tenemos que tomar un acuerdo como poderes judiciales de Iberoamérica para ser una voz y demandar respeto a la independencia judicial; no solo basta declarar que la independencia judicial es una garantía para la ciudadanía, es necesidad que la Cumbre no solo accione, sino reaccione”, sostuvo.

En su intervención final en este foro, Barrios Alvarado hizo una reflexión sobre el rol de la Cumbre y los mecanismos que tiene frente a ataques a los poderes judiciales, y la respuesta que debe darse, “a una sola voz”, cuando se advierta de manera concreta o real la afectación a un sistema de justicia.

“Como Cumbre Judicial Iberoamericana tenemos como importante visión fortalecer el servicio de justicia, y siempre debemos estar un paso adelante ante cualquier amenaza a la independencia judicial como garantía que le debemos a los justiciables”, recalcó.

La jueza suprema también reafirmó que toda democracia debe incluir a las mujeres en igualdad con los hombres en todos sus estamentos, incluyendo a la administración de justicia.

Indicó, que en la selección de jueces y permanencia en la carrera judicial se requieren procesos que incorporen acciones para nivelar la participación de las mujeres en la carrera judicial.

“El norte al que se apunta es a eliminar toda discriminación estructural contra las mujeres que limita su participación en espacios de poder y toma de decisiones porque paridad no está reñida con la meritocracia”, enfatizó.

Su discurso fue brindado al concluir el encuentro desarrollado en Brasilia desde el jueves 15, donde los representantes de los poderes judiciales de Iberoamérica intercambiaron experiencias y formaron grupos de trabajo. Además, suscribieron el acta correspondiente.

La ronda de talleres tuvo como eje temático “Por una carrera judicial independiente y eficaz”, y se desarrolló en el marco de la XXI Edición de la Cumbre Judicial Iberoamericana, cuya sesión plenaria se realizará el próximo año en nuestro país.

The supreme judge also reaffirmed that any democracy must include women on an equal footing with men at all levels, including the administration of justice.

He indicated that in the selection of judges and permanence in the judicial career, processes that incorporate actions to level the participation of women in the judicial career are required.

“The north that is aimed at is to eliminate all structural discrimination against women that limits their participation in spaces of power and decision-making because parity is not at odds with meritocracy,” he emphasized.
