“Reciba esta condecoración cargada de historia, en la más alta jerarquía que otorga la república, como símbolo del reconocimiento y gratitud del Perú y como testimonio inequívoco de la admiración, orgullo y afecto de las peruanas y peruanos”, expresó la jefa de Estado.

La mandataria remarcó que la distinción constituye un reconocimiento tanto al ilustre literato que ha tenido al Perú como escenario de la mayoría de sus textos, como al intelectual cuya argumentada evolución de su pensamiento político puede leerse a través de las décadas.

En ese sentido, subrayó que Vargas Llosa, recientemente incorporado a la Academia Francesa, representa al escritor comprometido con el destino de la humanidad y coherentemente involucrado con lo que acontece en la sociedad.

Asimismo, indicó, ha demostrado ser promotor de la cultura y la reflexión intelectual, a la par de defensor estoico de la democracia, del Estado de derecho y la libertad.

“Sus lauros y su trascendencia nos dan igualmente esperanza en el destino del Perú, por el cual estamos trabajando incansablemente, tal como nos comprometimos desde el primer día en esta responsabilidad con la patria”, enfatizó la presidenta Boluarte.

Por su parte, Mario Vargas Llosa agradeció la condecoración, expresó su reconocimiento a la jefa de Estado como presidenta constitucional, y resaltó su respeto por la democracia.

“Reconozco en usted a la presidenta constitucional del Perú porque ha asumido la primera magistratura, respetando la legalidad y el Estado de derecho. También ha exhortado al Congreso a que determine una salida satisfactoria a los problemas actuales (…) Las investigaciones para sancionar a las personas que hayan cometido abusos delitos o crímenes son prueba fehaciente de que en nuestro país sigue imperando un sistema democrático”, afirmó.

The president remarked that the distinction constitutes recognition both to the illustrious writer who has had Peru as the setting for most of his texts, and to the intellectual whose well-argued evolution of his political thought can be read over the decades.

In this sense, he stressed that Vargas Llosa, recently incorporated into the French Academy, represents the writer committed to the destiny of humanity and consistently involved with what happens in society.

Likewise, he indicated, he has proven to be a promoter of culture and intellectual reflection, as well as a stoic defender of democracy, the rule of law and freedom.

“Their laurels and their significance also give us hope in the destiny of Peru, for which we are working tirelessly, just as we committed ourselves from day one in this responsibility to the country,” President Boluarte emphasized.

For his part, Mario Vargas Llosa thanked the award, expressed his appreciation to the head of state as constitutional president, and highlighted his respect for democracy.

“I recognize in you the constitutional president of Peru because you have assumed the first magistracy, respecting legality and the rule of law. You have also urged Congress to determine a satisfactory solution to current problems (…) The investigations to sanction the people who have committed abuses, crimes or crimes are reliable proof that a democratic system continues to prevail in our country,” he said.
