Changes in the cabinet are a positive signal, the country’s leading export union ADEX maintains.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe The changes in the ministerial cabinet are a positive sign for the governance and stability of the country, however, it is time to move from words to action, said the president of the Association of Exporters (ADEX), Erik Fischer Llanos.

“We hope that what will happen in the future is in line with what was expressed by President Pedro Castillo during his tour in the US –the importance of granting guarantees to the business sector in order to increase investment in Peru–, and the country and the future of Peruvians to any political project, “he said cautiously.

The export sector, generator of income to the country and decentralized jobs, in addition to being a great formalizer – Fischer pointed out – faces a series of cost overruns such as the increase in freight rates as a result of the so-called ‘container crisis’, which subtracts competitiveness to the national offer in relation to other countries.

ADEX reported that although national dispatches (US $ 34 thousand 197 million 494 thousand) grew 14% between January and August of this year, compared to the same period of 2019 (US $ 29 thousand 975 million), there are still six sectors that do not reach the levels of the prepandemic (January-August 2019): primary agriculture (-23%), hydrocarbons (-46%), fishing for direct human consumption (-5%), metalworking (-7%), wood (- 4%) and various (-18%).

In this sense, Fischer reiterated his request to accelerate transversal and sectoral measures aimed at all members of the export chain, some of them, he mentioned, are the Aquaculture Promotion Law, the creation of the Executive Board of Jewelery and Goldsmithing and the modification of the regulatory framework for SWAP operations, the purpose of which is to guarantee the supply of gold in Peru, reducing the cost overruns generated by imports.
