Este grupo de trabajo fue creado mediante la Resolución Suprema N.° 108-2021-PCM. La norma establece que este equipo será presidido por la titular del Consejo de Ministros e integrado por los titulares de Energía y Minas, Economía y Finanzas, Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Justicia y Derechos Humanos y Relaciones Exteriores, así como el viceministro de Hidrocarburos del Minem y el presidente de Perupetro.

En la reunión, los integrantes de la comisión acordaron sus primeras acciones, en el marco de la resolución suprema de su creación. Cabe recordar que este grupo de trabajo tiene como objetivo evaluar los alcances y acciones para ampliar las reservas de gas natural y fortalecer la industria de los hidrocarburos que permita su masificación a nivel nacional y viabilice el desarrollo de las actividades y proyectos de gas natural en el país, en beneficio de todos los consumidores.

Del mismo modo, se establece que la comisión multisectorial deberá presentar un informe final que contemplará propuestas sobre la ampliación de las reservas de gas natural para el avance de su masificación a nivel nacional; así como el desarrollo de la infraestructura de gas natural para el avance de su masificación en las regiones de Cusco, Puno, Apurímac, Arequipa, Moquegua y Tacna; y los mecanismos que permitan promover y garantizar esta masificación.
