“El deporte nos enseña a ganar y también a perder. A ganar con humildad y a perder con hidalguía”, remarcó el mandatario tras enfatizar que “ningún deportista cuestiona las reglas de la competencia en la cual ha participado, después de perder”.

La ceremonia se realizó en el Patio de Honor de Palacio de Gobierno y en ella estuvieron presentes seis de los 34 deportistas que integran la delegación peruana, así como la jefa del Gabinete Ministerial, Violeta Bermúdez; el ministro de Educación, Ricardo Cuenca; y el presidente del Instituto Peruano del Deporte (IPD), Gustavo San Martín.

Al iniciar su discurso, el presidente Sagasti manifestó que “es un alto honor poder recibirlos en la casa de todas y todos los peruanos, para hacerles entrega de la bandera del Perú, un símbolo patrio que estoy seguro, todos ustedes, sabrán llevar con responsabilidad y orgullo, y que flameará reluciente en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio”.

Al señalar que los Juegos Olímpicos son quizá el evento deportivo más importante del mundo, anotó que para lograr clasificarse hay que hacer mucho esfuerzo y tener una voluntad de trabajo, lo cual requiere largas horas de entrenamiento, disciplina, sacrificio y compromiso.

“Por eso los felicito a ustedes, como representantes de los 34 deportistas que participarán en estos Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio. Desde ya forman parte de la historia deportiva peruana, como lo han hecho otras delegaciones que han llevado la bandera peruana a diferentes juegos olímpicos en el pasado”, expresó.

Asimismo, refirió que el Perú debutó en los Juegos Olímpicos hace 120 años, en la ciudad de París, con un solo competidor. “Hoy día son 34 deportistas que nos representan a los 33 millones de compatriotas, que los acompañarán en cada carrera, en cada partida, en cada turno, en cada evento en los que ustedes participan”, apuntó el jefe del Estado, quien entregó la bandera a la surfista Daniella Rosas.

Indicó que en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio el Perú cumplirá con su vigésima participación en este gran escenario mundial del deporte.

“Da la casualidad que es el año en el cual celebramos el Bicentenario de nuestra independencia, por lo cual estoy seguro que todos ustedes harán el mejor esfuerzo posible para dejar el nombre del Perú en alto”, manifestó.

DISCIPLINA Y ESFUERZO
En otro momento, señaló haber leído la reseña de cada uno de los 34 deportistas y remarcó que todos ellos “son una demostración que la disciplina y el esfuerzo nos saca adelante”.

“El deporte es salud. El deporte no solo requiere disciplina, es una lección de vida. Lo que hacen los deportistas es mostrarnos, como a través de su esfuerzo, disciplina y trabajo, pueden cada uno de ellos dar individualmente lo mejor de sí, dándonos un ejemplo a todos los peruanos y peruanas”, subrayó.

Al indicar que la excelencia individual es extraordinaria y algo muy positivo, sostuvo que también es importante trabajar en equipo y hacer las cosas como se deben hacer, siguiendo las reglas de cada deporte.

“Queridos jóvenes deportistas, no abandonen sus ideales. El esfuerzo y el sacrificio que han realizado para llegar adonde están ahora y representarnos en Tokio, les permitirá vivir el resto de sus vidas con estos recuerdos y con los recuerdos de todos los peruanos y peruanas que estaremos atentos a su desempeño. Sé que saldrán victoriosos muchos de ustedes, tenemos excelentes deportistas de talla mundial y estoy seguro que dejarán el nombre del Perú muy en alto”, expresó.
