English translation
The first export union ADEX reported that between January and August, industrial exports grew 55.5%.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe Between January and August of this year, manufacturing exports totaled US $ 3 thousand 736 million, reflecting an increase of 55.5% compared to the same period of 2020 (US $ 2 thousand 402 million), due to the good performance of the chemical, iron and steel and clothing sectors, reported the Manufacturing Management of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

The central manager of Exports of the union, Ysabel Segura, highlighted the recovery of the sector by accumulating 9 consecutive months in blue -since December 2020-, which generates good expectations for the end of the year.

However, he clarified that the great performance of 2021 (55.5%) responds to the low comparison base of the first months of 2020, when the health crisis began and it hit manufacturing due to the stoppage of activities. “If we compare the figure for this year with that of January-August 2019 (US $ 3 thousand 419 million), an increase of 9.3% is observed,” he explained.

An important factor in the recovery of this activity was the demand from the US, its main destination with US $ 1,004 million, experiencing a growth of 73.5% and concentrating 26.9% of the total.

IN DETAIL
ADEX reported that, although all industrial sectors evolved in 2021, some do not exceed the figures of previous years. This is the case of textiles (it achieved higher figures in the period January-August 2015 and 2018), metalworking (January-August 2018 and 2019) and several (January-August 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

The most outstanding by exported amount was the chemical one (US $ 1,190 million) with a positive variation of 31.5% and a 31.9% participation. Its most prominent items were plates and sheets of polymers of propylene, zinc oxide, ethyl alcohol and ethylene plates; and its markets Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, USA and Colombia.

The iron and steel industry (US $ 933 million 601 thousand) represented 25% of industrial shipments, which had the best performance, growing 91.5%. Its first destinations include Colombia, the US, Bolivia, Ecuador and Switzerland. Its most exported products were refined copper wire, unalloyed zinc, unalloyed iron or steel bars, alloyed raw silver, and refined copper bars.

Apparel (US $ 722 million 079 thousand) also increased by 77.5%. Its offer was led by cotton t-shirts and knitted undershirts, which were mainly directed to the United States, which accounts for 54.6% of this chain. Other markets were Chile, Colombia, Canada and Brazil.

As already mentioned, although metalworking (US $ 349 million 763 thousand) increased its orders by 29.9%, it still does not exceed the amount of 2018 and 2019. Items such as drilling or drilling machines, parts of machines or devices and framed glasses , among others, they went to Chile, the US, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia.

Textiles (US $ 274 million 848 thousand) presented a 69.8%. The fine carded or combed alpaca hair and the wool or fine hair yarns were two of the most important products in its portfolio.
