The “King” in search of “Castle”, both dignitaries held a meeting of friendship and work.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe We had a pleasant meeting with King Felipe VI of Spain, said the virtual president of the Inca nation, Pedro Castillo Terrones, on his social media account .

At the meeting, the two leaders talked about the cultural ties of both countries and about strengthening the ties of friendship between the two nations.

BILATERAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERU AND SPAIN
The bilateral diplomatic relationship was established on November 15, 1879 with the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship.

From that moment on, diplomatic relations between Peru and Spain began, giving rise to a new stage in which important bilateral agreements were signed in the cultural, legal and academic fields. It is also at this time that Peru supports the participation of the Spanish Crown in the solution of some border disputes with its neighboring countries.

The friendly relations between Peru and Spain were affected by the difficult Spanish political situation during the civil war.

In 1936 both countries broke their diplomatic relations, which were resumed in 1939, when the two parties raised their diplomatic representations to the category of embassies.

In the years that followed and until the end of World War II, Hispanic-Peruvian ties were determined by the reinforcement of cultural ties.

The content of the bilateral relationship will be enriched later in the 1950s, with the signing of the Trade Agreement -which introduced the economic component- and other equally relevant agreements, such as Dual Nationality and Visa Suppression.

The economic consolidation of Spain in subsequent decades gave priority to the chapter on cooperation and, in the 1990s, to its role as an exporter of capital. During this period, Spain made significant investments in the fields of telecommunications, banking, energy and finance in Peru, which at the same time became one of the main Latin American beneficiaries of Spanish cooperation.

The signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, which took place in 2008, formalized the political dialogue at the highest level.
