English translation
On Obstetrician Day, more than 6,500 care for pregnant women and more than a thousand women infected with Covid-19 in a pandemic stand out.

Peruvian News Agency PRENSAPERU.PE https://prensaperu.pe Twitter: @prensaperupe The natural cycle of life does not stop and thousands of babies have been born in times of pandemic. Behind each birth, and before the mothers themselves receive their children in their arms, are the obstetricians, those professionals who accompany the pregnant woman until the day of birth and who, in Covid-19 times, have put their own lives in risk to achieve the dream of every mother: to bring her babies to life, safe and sound.

In the context of the international obstetrician day, the Edgardo Rebagliati National Hospital, reported that, since the beginning of the pandemic to date, nearly a thousand cases of Covid-19 pregnant women have been treated by emergency, achieving successful and uncomplicated deliveries. It was the months of May (125), June (91) and July (152) that revealed the highest record of care, representing 36% of all deliveries.

The head of obstetricians at the Rebagliati hospital, Lic. Flor de María Gonzales, pointed out that there is no better reward for professionals in this career than to be part of the process of bringing lives to the world, within the multidisciplinary team that this entails. “We are part of the before and after of a pregnant woman, we promote the sexual and reproductive health of women and we are aware of the grain of sand that each one puts for her patient,” said the head of Obstetricians Covid of EsSalud.

This is why obstetric specialists have not lowered their guard since the existence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in our country became known. “Many of our colleagues have recovered from the virus, but their vocation to pay attention to our patients again prevailed, and they have returned to our ranks to also be part of the Covid-19 teams.” Gonzales said.

Regarding the hospitalization admissions of Covid-19 pregnant women, the hospital had 135 cases: 39 in the month of May, 29 in June and 28 in August 2020.

Obstetricians, formerly known as midwives or midwives, existed with the sole and primary commitment to supporting women’s labor. We can say then, that obstetricians have an ancestral origin in the development of human history, playing an essential role in the survival of the species.

OBSTETERS ON THE FIRST LINE
Lic. Christian Llave, obstetrician and currently part of the first-class team, comments that the satisfaction of taking a pregnant woman and / or mother with her newborn off the island is priceless.

Llave contracted the virus in the middle of the year and presented complicated symptoms of muscle inflammation. He relates that the fear he felt when he knew he was infected disappeared when he remembered how important his work was with the patients, who waited for him and celebrated his return. As soon as he recovered, he returned recharged and with the same commitment to continue being the support of the pregnant women.
